About me
My name is Chai-Yoel Korn. I identify as non-binary and queer, and my gender pronouns are they/them.
I am a body and trauma relational psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. For over 25 years I have been working with and been an ally to the LGBTQIA+ and HIV communities. I am also an experienced and knowledgeable public speaker, trainer and writer. I have a strong interest and experience of working interculturally and am queer thinking. I have lived experience of living with a disability and chronic health issues. I have a good understanding of my own disability and health needs and like to help and support others become their own advocate and find their voice when living with their own disability or health needs. As beautiful humans, I believe we are all our own specialists of our lived experience, and no-one can take that away from us.
I am also a Mindfulness Practitioner and Reiki Master.
I do not deal with criminal, custodial or judicial matters; there are therapists that specialise in these areas.
When working with trauma I only work with past experiences of trauma as this provides safety to the client and myself and prevents vicarious trauma.
Speaker / trainer / writer
My passionate public speaking has taken me across the world. I bring my life and over 25 years of work experience to my public speaking. In 2011, I delivered a workshop on ‘Dealing with Difficult Emotions as part of the Happy Life Conference in Taipei, Taiwan. I am also an experienced trainer delivering workshops, training and consultancy on several themes. I bring over 25 years’ experience and knowledge of working with gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, and sexual health, to the training I offer. Please visit my Public Speaking and Training page for more information.
I have experience of writing around themes of well-being and other specialisms for journals and magazines. My paper ‘The Chicken Soup of Identity’ was accepted for a book called ‘Non-Binary Lives: An Anthology of Intersecting Identities’, which was recommended by The Independent in both 2020 and 2021, and was a 2021 Lambda Literary Award Finalist. I am very proud of my involvement in the project, and you can read more about it on my Writing page.
Psychotherapist and Supervisor
I am a Relational Body and Trauma Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, with over a decade of experience offering psychotherapy services to individuals, relationship therapy, group-therapy and group-work to those aged 15+. My specialisms include body psychotherapy; disability and neurodiversity; gender, sexuality and relationship diversity (GSRD) and trauma therapy. I offer both short-term and long-term psychotherapy where your well-being is my priority. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.
My private practice is based in North London and via Zoom in English. As an intercultural psychotherapist I am excited to work with other cultures across the globe and pleased that working online via Zoom makes this more possible and therapy more accessible.
I live with a disability and have lived experience of living with chronic health issues. Due to this, I am passionate in making therapy as accessible to all and believe that this is possible. I offer concessions where I can and depending on how full my practice is.
Career background
My early career was in the hospitality and catering industry, since then I have worked in the fields of health, social and youth work helping people to take charge of their health and well-being. I am an experienced Community Development and Volunteer Development worker, skilled at engaging marginalised communities such as the People of Colour (POC), Faith and GRSD communities. Intersectionality is at the core of how I work. I am adept at developing trusting and respectful relationships, and finding creative methods to reach out to both young people and adults. I have the tenacity and self-awareness to work in challenging situations, where I combine my deep knowledge of community development and well-being with my project management skills.
Throughout my career I have learnt - and continue to learn - that having a good relationship is the key to a good outcome.
I know from my own personal experience that if we cannot feel, accept being challenged, and look at how our past affects our present then it can be difficult for us to move forward in our lives.
